The digital world offers incredible opportunities for New Zealand, but it also exposes us to significant risks. While individual government agencies have cyber security plans, a unified national strategy – encompassing industry, citizens, and government – remains elusive. This fragmented approach, coupled with limited resources, leaves us potentially exposed in the face of evolving cyber threats.

There are lingering perceptions that the cloud is more secure than more traditional on-premises systems. While there are certainly benefits that can be leveraged from the cloud, without the right security layers, businesses are just as exposed.

While end-to-end encryption effectively secures messages, it is not foolproof against all cyberthreats and requires users to actively manage their privacy settings.

The all-hands meetings are coming thick and fast around the country as the sluggish economy and mandates for budget cuts in the public sector start to bite.

We’ve got so much potential here, with smart Kiwis in the start-up sector, our research institutions and across business and the public sector doing incredible things.  But we’ll need a step change in how we teach, train and equip people for the future….
