Next steps for the ITP community

The Selection Committee process

ITP is closing as a legal entity, but the community it represents will continue.

A Selection Committee made up of members will guide the next stage: finding a new, sustainable home for the ITP community and its work to advance professionalism in technology across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Purpose of the Selection Committee

The committee has been created to make sure ITP’s legacy continues in the right place.
It will identify and recommend an organisation that can:

  • Support and grow the professional community

  • Uphold ITP’s values of ethics, excellence, and public good

  • Provide stable, long-term governance and infrastructure

  • Maintain New Zealand’s voice in the global technology profession

This is not about recreating ITP as a legal entity. It is about ensuring the community and its purpose live on.

What the committee will do

The Selection Committee will run a structured, transparent process to identify the best long-term home for the community.

It will:

  1. Invite and review proposals from interested organisations such as NZTech, TUANZ, Engineering NZ, and relevant international partners.

  2. Assess each proposal against clear criteria covering community, alignment, and sustainability.

  3. Meet with and interview leaders from shortlisted organisations to understand their capability, culture, and fit.

  4. Consider governance models, funding approaches, and opportunities for member involvement.

  5. Recommend one preferred option to the liquidator and the wider community, supported by evidence and reasoning.

This process will run much like a values-based procurement exercise — focused, fair, and transparent.

Who is on the committee

The Selection Committee will bring together a small group of members who reflect the breadth of the ITP community.
Our ideal membership includes:

  • 2 Members

  • 1 Associate

  • 1 Fellow or Honorary Fellow

  • 1 Student

  • 2 outgoing Board members

  • Chair: the current ITP President

If some categories are not filled, the final group will still reflect a balance of experience, career stage, and perspective.
An observer group may also be set up to include additional voices and support the process.

How the committee will work

  • Meetings will be held online to allow participation from anywhere in New Zealand.

  • Members will review written proposals and interview representatives from potential partner organisations.

  • Decisions will be made collectively, based on evidence and alignment with ITP’s purpose.

  • Key milestones and outcomes will be shared publicly on this page.

  • The committee will disband once its final recommendation is delivered.

Evaluation criteria

When reviewing options, the committee will consider:

  1. Community continuity – ability to maintain and grow professional networks.

  2. Purpose alignment – shared commitment to professionalism, ethics, and public good.

  3. Sustainability – organisational and financial stability for the long term.

  4. Representation and voice – genuine opportunities for members to participate.

  5. Collaboration and influence – capacity to connect with education, industry, and government.

  6. Legacy and stewardship – protection of ITP’s history, identity, and reputation.

How to apply

Expressions of Interest will open the day after the Special General Meeting.

If you are an ITP member, Associate, Fellow, or Student and would like to contribute to this process, you can apply by submitting a short online form.

Your application will include:

  • Your name and membership category

  • A brief summary of your experience or involvement with ITP

  • A short statement (up to 200 words) on why you would like to join the Selection Committee

Applications will close ten days after opening.

The outgoing Board will confirm a balanced mix across membership categories and regions, aiming for a group that reflects the range and diversity of the ITP community.

Final appointments will be published in mid-November 2025.

Committee members will represent the community collectively — not as delegates of any specific group — and are expected to take part in meetings, review material, and contribute to decision-making.
