Fast 3 - Nelson innovators tell how sunshine, software and success can mix together
A Block Main Entrance,
322 Hardy St
Today's ubiquitous reach of technology means innovation success is no longer limited to tech hubs and silicon valleys. Even in the sunshine capital of New Zealand, better known for arts and beach escapes, Nelson's bright sparks are proving tech has no barriers.
At this Fast 3 event, three presenters will tell us about their innovative initiatives and how they're achieving their tech success in the Nelson Marlborough region. This is a popular event on our ITP Nelson calendar that you really don't want to miss.
About The Speakers
Speaker 1 - Phil Cox (SmartConnected)
Developing a network to monitor the marine environment in the Marlborough Sounds for the Marlborough District Council
Phil is the Director Technology Solutions at Creative Development Solutions, which has been working with the Marlborough District Council on its "Smart + Connected" strategy. The current focus is Smart Services that aims to establish a technology sensor network in the Marlborough Sounds to monitor the marine environment.
Real time data with the aquaculture industry and marine users more generally could prove helpful in providing early warnings of adverse growing conditions such as algal blooms. It could also potentially increase productivity by providing a better understanding of when to undertake aspects of growing and harvesting, for example, mussels and salmon.
Speaker 2 - Sean Thomas (Banana Box)
How I set up an online business that both uses my skill and gives to good causes
Sean Thomas's new venture, Banana Box, is an online grocery and a fundraiser for charities, schools and sports clubs. The initiative sells leading brands found in supermarkets at similar prices and donates 10 percent of the sale less GST to the cause chosen by the purchaser.
Sean was keen to set up a business that would use his skills and give to charity. He has had a long interest in motivation, particularly in the workplace, and he spent over twenty years developing and implementing systems to increase staff motivation. The systems, which included both a consulting and software component, broke new ground in the application of psychology on the factory floor.
The relationships he had built in the food and beverage manufacturing sector helped Sean to create his winning venture.
Speaker 3 - Warwick Jones (SenSys)
The benefits of RF technology and the end-to-end systems developed and how they contribute to people and property care
Warwick Jones is the Technology Director at SenSys, a Nelson company that provides internet-based sensing solutions that produce new efficiencies and operational insights for owners and managers of properties and assets.
An electrical engineering graduate from Canterbury too far back to mention, Warwick is an original founder of SenSys and his career spans from the pre-digital age.
He is the visionary behind the wireless, long-range, low-power measurement and control innovations of SenSys, directing a team of engineers in Wellington from his Nelson base.
Warwick will talk about the benefits of the latest in modern RF technology, the end-to-end systems developed and the practical ways they contribute to people and property care.
