Intro to Docker (Student Event)

The Docker container ecosystem is often used in industry but rarely taught in education.

For teams who produce and maintain software applications, it solves numerous challenges that they might encounter during the development lifecycle. It’s also common to encounter Docker tools and concepts on cloud-based development platforms like GitHub, Heroku, AWS or Azure. Join this bootcamp to kickstart your understanding of Docker!

The session aims to reveal a range of concepts and tools. By attending you’ll learn:

  • What Docker and containerisation is

  • What common problems it solves

  • An introduction to core tools and workflows

  • Further topics to practice and research

Hosted by Engineering Manager at Hnry, Stuart Whitehead. Stuart has over 12 years of experience working for digital agencies in the UK, Germany and New Zealand, where he’s delivered work for clients like Red Bull, Samsung, ACC and the Tertiary Education Commission.

If you’re looking for a Developer or DevOps role, you SHOULD be attending this event! Your awareness of programming languages, application frameworks and cloud platforms will give a reference point for the concepts Stuart introduces.

No specific knowledge is required. Join with a curious and open mind; anyone with a tech-adjacent background will benefit from attending.

This event is presented in partnership with Summer of Tech. By registering and attending, you agree to the Summer of Tech Code of Conduct. While the session is open to all ITP student members, some content may include references specific to the Summer of Tech internship programme.
