Guest Speaker and Topic
Lee Timutimu (Ngāti Awa, Ngāi Te Rangi, Tūhoe, Ngāti Porou) founded Arataki Cultural Trails with culture at the heart of his business strategy, developing a company wholly owned and developed by Māori tech entrepreneurs to share the stories of New Zealand's iwi and hapū.
For this presentation Lee will focus on three main topics. What it means to be an entrepreneur with tikanga at the heart of your business. How to form trusted relationships with iwi and hapū - understanding the importance of people and place. Tikanga in the global business environment - exporting Māori values to bridge cultural divides.
Lee is CEO & Founder of Arataki Cultural Trails (www.arataki.co) - a tech company based in Tauranga who have developed NZ's first proximity based cultural content delivery platform. In simple terms, it's a Māori storytelling app that allows you to unlock cultural stories when in-location. Arataki is wholly owned and run by Māori tech entrepreneurs who to date have funded the entire business.
Whakatāne born and bred, Lee has 15+ years of experience in the IT support services sector and 10+ years' experience in the Māori storytelling space. Lee is also the Founder of a community-based initiative called Te Reo Wainene o Tua (www.trwot.org.nz), a collective of high profile te Reo Māori advocates who are reviving the oral tradition of Māori storytelling. Lee currently resides in Tauranga with his wife Hollie, their 4 children, and 5 cats.
