Small drones have the capability of creating image making opportunities which were previously only dreamed of on low budgets. The possibilities for use of these craft are endless; many have been suggested in the media - some reasonable; others more questionable.

The purpose of this presentation is to showcase the image-making capabilities of drones; briefly discuss some of the technology available to civilians, the current pace of developments and the compliance challenges with respect to the operation of drones.

About The Speaker

Colin Gans is a Chartered IT professional whose interests lie in database technologies. He is also passionate about the ocean, image making and enabling technologies. His images have appeared in BBC Natural History (Life), New Zealand Geographic and many other books, brochures, magazines and online publications.

As an early adopter of drone technologies, he has drawn on his IT and problem solving skills and has integrated technologies around drones to complement his underwater work: to carry cameras in the air for top down aerial and marine perspectives. He has built amphibious craft, capable of flying cameras into hard to get to places; sometimes immersing them… Colin chairs SEAFANZ, an underwater photographic society.
