Embracing Diversity: Modernising Membership at ITP

Every organisation needs to continually evolve to meet the changing needs of their industry. IT Professionals at the ripe old age of 64 is undertaking a series of steps designed to modernise our governing structure. Some are bold steps - like removing barriers to becoming a member I am writing about today - others are minor and designed to update out of date bylaws. Ultimately we are moving the former computer society towards ensuring our community reflects the diverse and dynamic nature of the industry we represent.

Removing barriers

This change involves removing barriers in the membership application process that may have unintentionally excluded talented individuals from being able to join us, or from seeing us as an open and inclusive organisation.

Previously, specific requirements such as years of experience, educational background, and the need for sponsorship to becoming a member, all created obstacles. By streamlining the application process, we aim to welcome a broader range of passionate individuals who can contribute diverse perspectives and skills to our community.

Commitment to Inclusivity

These changes are a first step forward in our journey to create a more inclusive and supportive community for our members - and the wider digital technology industry as a whole. I came into this role focused on changing the face of this industry, creating a sense of belonging for anyone who wants to work in digital tech, so am thrilled to be announcing this first change.
