Come and join the Wellington Branch of IT Professionals NZ for their first after work event for 2018!

Geospatial technology uses geography to integrate and combine data from diverse unrelated sources, organisations and users with no unique ID, to help identify new relationships in unconnected data. Technologies like IOT, self-driving cars, smart cities, and mobile all rely on location information.

We'll answer questions IT Professionals really want to know, including:

  • Why are GIS users so demanding?
  • GIS just another app, surely it can't be that hard?
  • What are all these photos for, do you really need all those petabytes?
  • Can't we just use Google Maps?
  • So we've spent 20 years collecting address data and you're saying it's rubbish?

Bring your mobile to this interactive session where we'll demystify the geospatial voodoo, share some tips and tricks as well as fundamental things to know to reduce pain points, user suffering and general IT system inflammation.

Henry Carthew from Beca Ltd. will present some practical use cases for GIS across a wide spectrum of industry from the use of drones in agriculture to the resilience of our transportation networks.

Registration from 4:15pm, 4:30pm presentation starts, 5:30pm networking, 6:00pm event finishes.

Includes light refreshments sponsored by Beca Ltd.
