Low-power wide-area networks (LPWAN), and the Internet of Things (IoT) are a very new set of technologies which are central to the next industrial revolution "Industry 4.0" - which includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things, cloud computing and cognitive computing. These technologies are getting ready to shape the future of work.
This talk will introduce LPWAN and IoT technologies and the opportunities these technologies bring and the challenges they present. The first part of the talk will focus on the in-field technology, the electronics, protocols and communication systems as well as the current state of play in NZ. The second part of the talk will address what to do with the data once it is collected. Remote devices can generate a tremendous amount of data which needs processing - usually this is pushed into the Cloud. There is a wide array of options for capturing, processing, storage, analysis, and presentation of data.
Some of the many considerations when implementing these complex technologies, including both technical and non-technical design considerations, will be covered as part of this presentation.
