Git is a version control tool used to manage collaborations in software development. The Git workshop hosted by IT Professionals NZ Student Council with collaboration of Ali Kahwaji will be a workshop aimed to get you started for using Git in a real-world collaborative setting.

The workshop is targeted at intermediate users to understand how to use Git. Our workshop facilitator - Mr. Ali Khawaji from Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) has lots of experience working with Git and is with one of the two campuses in New Zealand that have a certified GitHub Campus Expert.

This workshop event is free for all ITP student members and is designed to be conducted in a relaxed setting, with time for participants to have some hands-on experience themselves. This means that participants would need to install Git and register for a GitHub account prior to the workshop to maximise the learning outcomes. Refer to the additional resources below for the download links.

GitHub Actions will be the focus of this workshop, help automate your software development life cycle tasks. GitHub Actions are event-driven, meaning you can run a series of commands after a specified event. For example, you can automatically run a command that executes a software testing script whenever someone creates a pull request for a repository. GitHub Actions makes it easy to automate all your software workflows with world-class CI/CD. Build, test, and deploy your code right from GitHub. We can make code reviews, branch management, and issue triaging work as you want. Actions are standalone commands that are combined into steps to create a job. Actions are the smallest portable building block of a workflow.
