Join us for a candid kōrero with Andrew Cushen, the Executive Director of The Code, the voluntary agreement signed by major platforms like Meta, Google, TikTok and X. Promising to tackle harmful content and keep users safe, the Code has drawn both praise and criticism—is it a genuine step forward or a strategy to avoid government regulation?
We’ll unpack what the Code does, how it’s working in practice, and what it means for digital safety in Aotearoa. Whether you work in tech, policy or just care about what’s happening online, this is a conversation that cuts through the noise.
Andrew Cushen
Andrew is the Executive Director of the Aotearoa New Zealand Code of Practice for Online Safety and Harms – a role he does alongside the other hats he wears, including work in forestry and as a Board member of TUANZ. He’s also been co-chair of the multistakeholder group advising government on disinformation, and previously worked for Vodafone, TelstraClear and InternetNZ, predominantly in corporate affairs and regulatory policy roles. Andrew loves working in and around tech, and finding ways we can use it to do more for all of us.
