NZCS Mentoring Programme is now nationwide!
by Erin Connolly

Hi ,

The NZCS Mentoring Programme is now nationwide!

Following from the success of the pilot programme currently running in Wellington, we are proud to announce the NZCS Mentoring Programme is now being launched across the country.

The NZCS Mentoring Programme is the best way for ICT Professionals to get ahead in their professional career.

Whether as a Mentee, gaining the experience and guidance of a professional who has been there before, or as a Mentor, receiving full Mentoring training free and contributing to the development of others, participating in the programme is hugely rewarding.

What is Mentoring?mentorpic2.jpg

A Mentor is often described as a professional who undertakes an active interest in the career development of what is often a younger or perhaps less experienced individual in the same profession.

It's important to differentiate Mentoring from Coaching - Mentors do not attempt to advise Mentees directly, but should assist their Mentees to come to their own conclusions as to how best to achieve their goals.

Put simply, mentoring works. A large percentage of successful individuals across most fields have attributed much of their success to mentoring, and mentoring really is an integral component of professional development and growth.

Applications now open for Auckland, Hamilton, Christchurch and Dunedin

Full details, including eligibility criteria, at www.iitp.org.nz/mentoring. Note that there are very limited places and these are expected to fill fast.

Note:  Applications are still open for Mentees wanting to take part in the Wellington programme - we have plenty of trained Mentors!  Applications for Mentors in Wellington will reopen early next year.

NZCS Accredited Mentors

Mentors accepted into the programme will have the opportunity to work towards "NZCS Accredited Mentor" status, and will receive full formal Mentoring training at no cost (valued at $495+GST). This is not arduous - it is a half-day course and is conducted in the afternoon prior to a "meet and greet" event where Mentors and Mentees meet face-to-face for the first time.

There is a small cost for Mentees (often paid by employers), however the programme is subsidised by NZCS. Mentors participate at no cost. Please see the website for details.

We strongly recommend ALL ICT Professionals consider becoming either a Mentor or Mentee - the professional advantages of doing so are very significant, and it'll be an outstanding experience!

Please see www.iitp.org.nz/mentoring for more information.

Regards,

Erin Connolly (Mentoring Coordinator) and the NZCS Mentoring Team
