$104,000,000,000 US Dollars is a big chunk of change in anyone's language. That's fifteen dollars for every man, woman and child on the entire planet.

It's also the valuation for Facebook thrown around during recent negotiations, which saw startup Instagram acquired, by the social giant. Instagram was launched just two years ago with $250k VC funding and was just acquired for 4000 times that value - around a billion dollars.

Around a year ago social media giant Twitter was valued at around $10 billion. For context, that's also the approximate value of 109 year old global motorcycle giant Harley-Davidson.

From these massive valuations to the smallest company using these social networks to leverage their businesses, it can no longer be said that social networking is a "fad" and even the hardest critic has to admit there's serious money in social.

So how do you or your business get a piece of it?

In this engaging presentation one of New Zealand's most prominent social media consultants, Justin Flitter, dives deep into the underlying analytics that make up the social Internet:

  1. What's new and what's coming in the social media scene?
  2. There's real value in social media. How do you or your business take advantage of the existing networks to get ahead?
  3. What are the emerging trends, which matter and most importantly, how do you get a piece of it - whether you're interested in this stuff or not?

When it comes to business, social media isn't simply about being on Twitter and Facebook - real value comes from a real campaign. Justin will look at what's involved in planning and running a successful campaign including real world examples.

Arrive from 5:30pm, presentation will start at 6pm sharp.

After the presentation, catch up with other young IT peeps over beer and pizza.

This presentation is part of the IITP #YoungIT Event Series - details below.
