Welcome to the Digital Leaders Lab 2019, a series of monthly breakfast sessions designed to enhance the personal effectiveness and strategic relevance of IT leaders in the digital age. Our focus is on developing great digital leaders who deliver value to their organisations through technology. The format of each session is a short presentation by a guest speaker on the chosen topic, followed by a lean coffee style discussion giving you plenty of opportunity to raise and engage in the questions you are seeking answers to.
Our topic for this month: Winning and Retaining Support for IT
Delivering value from IT is an intricate task for IT leaders and their teams and it is not something you can do alone. To be successful you need a broad coalition of users, business leaders, subject matter experts, change, comm's and change leaders, project managers and IT to deliver the desired effect. Oftentimes, we are unsuccessful because of the failure to involve the right people or teams the question is, how do you build this support thus secure its effective implementation?
A full buffet breakfast will be served. Please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with any dietary requirements.
About Owen McCall
It seems that everyone these days believes in the power of technology to transform. Believing in the power of IT to transform is one thing, actually making it happen, however is an entirely different matter. The road to fulfilling IT's potential to transform our organisations is more often a road to failure than it is a road to success. Just look at the statistics. Most pundits agree that 70+% of IT enabled change programmes fail.
As a lover of technology and a believer in technology's potential to transform, Owen finds statistics like this very frustrating. As a result, he now dedicates his time to supporting organizations to implement better ways to deliver change and to fulfill on technology's transformative power.
Owen is the author of High-Performance IT, a collection of short stories and unique IP that provides insights into IT leadership and delivering on the promise of technology. Owen is also a qualified accountant and was previously a partner in Deloitte Consulting where for several years he led Deloitte's Australasian outsourcing business before returning to New Zealand to take up the position of CIO of The Warehouse Group. In addition to running his practice Owen is a regular blogger and contributor to CIO and iStart publications and is sought after as both an event speaker and judge of industry awards including CIO 100 and the NZ Hi Tech Awards.
