Certification of IT Professionals

CITP licence has ended

Key information

  • The CITP licence ended on 9 September 2025

  • Current holders keep their designation until their next renewal date

  • To maintain Chartered IT Professional status after your renewal date, you must transfer to BCS (becoming MBCS)

  • All new and pending applications through ITP are closed

Why the licence ended

The agreement between ITP and BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT, UK) was signed in 2020 for five years. Over time ITP was not able to meet all the requirements of the licence. BCS chose not to continue, and the licence expired on 9 September 2025.

This outcome, along with other financial pressures, contributed to ITP’s insolvency and the decision to move into liquidation. More information about the closure can be found here: itp.nz/closure.

What this means for members

If you currently hold CITP, your designation remains valid until your next renewal date. After that, ITP can no longer renew or administer it. To continue as a Chartered IT Professional, you must hold professional membership with BCS (MBCS).

BCS has confirmed:

  • Free transfers from ITP to BCS are available

  • Members can also purchase BCS membership at a reduced fee

  • A 20 percent discount on BCS membership is available until 9 December 2025

Applications closed

ITP is no longer accepting or assessing CITP applications. All future applications must go directly to BCS.

Next steps for members

  1. If you hold CITP and want to retain accreditation, arrange BCS membership before your renewal date.

  2. Send all questions about CITP and CITP to BCS at custsupport@bcs.uk

We know this change is difficult for members who have worked hard to achieve and maintain CITP. Thank you for your contribution to professional standards in New Zealand.
